Smokefree Communities enacts peer to peer teaching programs designed to help youth recognize they are the targets of tobacco advertising.
We distribute educational materials to legislators regarding current tobacco laws, cigarette taxes, and the dangers of tobacco use and secondhand smoke.
We assist in the development of business plans for workplaces, restaurants and bars desiring to implement smokefree policies.
We implement programs to encourage physicians to take a proactive role with their tobacco using patients, to intervene and ask them to quit.
We refer all tobacco users to receive services from the Indiana Tobacco Quitline at 1-800-QUIT-NOW and other community cessation resources.
Rick Stoddard speaking about losing his wife Marie to lung cancer at a local school.
Rick has told his story to over one million young people throughout the nation. Its not a happy one. But its one he tells over and over again. Most men would refuse to relive the death of their wife of 25 years on an almost daily basis. Not Rick. He has a mission. He is determined that her death will not be in vain and that a legacy left behind will be a new generation of non smokers.
If anyone could spark this, it is Rick and his powerful testimony.
He is a true hero. A man of distinguished courage. The courage to stand up against the tobacco industry and speak the truth to our children about the number one preventable cause of death and disease.

"I've been smokefree for two years!!"

I'd like to share some tips I learned in the class that helped me quit First, change your daily routine. Second, have lots of things to distract you like crosswords or games. Third, use pretzel sticks and mints to help with cravings. It never hurts to excercise a lot too."
